During this process, molten metal is poured into a mold, die, or form to form a part. The aluminum forms a thin layer of aluminum oxide, providing a protective wall against corrosion. Typically, the parts are cast into a steel mold, which must be precision-machined to ensure smooth surfaces and a tight tolerance.

Die-casting is a highly versatile process that produces parts with superior tolerances and surface finishes. This process allows manufacturers to make aluminum parts with minimal machining. Though die-cast aluminum parts have excellent surface finish, they can still have some rough spots on their surfaces. These can be addressed by sanding, orbital sanding, or sandblasting. The process also reduces machining time.
