Magnetic Particle Inspection

Magnetic Particle Inspection

Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) is a non-destructive testing method used to detect surface and subsurface defects, including cracks, seams, inclusions, and porosity in investment castings. This method applies magnetic particles to the surface of the part, without damaging it in any way, to identify any invisible defects.

MPI is a quick and relatively uncomplicated process that detects defects with immediate results. It shows surface and near-surface discontinuities, which are the most significant ones as they concentrate stresses. The method can be adapted for site or workshop use and is less expensive than other sophisticated quality assurance methods.

At keming machinery, we recognize the importance of quality control and use MPI equipment to detect surface flaws in our castings. Our wet MPI method provides enhanced sensitivity, detecting discontinuities with a maximum depth of 1/4 inch. We carry out MPI testing on heat-treated or machined castings to ensure that there are no defects, and these products will not be delivered to our customers.
